An Indiana Senator will be proposing legislation to legalize medical marijuana.
State Senator Mike Bohacek is working on the 2027 legislation that would legalize medical marijuana in the state.
This decision comes after Governor Mike Braun said he was open to consider legislation on legalization. The federal government reclassified marijuana to a schedule III drug, examples of a schedule III drug are ketamine and Tylenol with codeine.
"The use of medical marijuana has been proven to be beneficial for some medical disorders and could help people throughout the state who are suffering find some relief," said Bohacek.

All states surrounding Indiana have legalized marijuana for medical and/or recreational use.
Bohacek says the legislation would create parameters for medical use, establish a tax rate and policy for sale and distribution.
The senator also says the legislation would update state impairment laws, establishing a blood concentration that would define impairment and creating trainings needed for law enforcement to identify impairment by THC.
"While the legislation I plan to propose would legalize the use of medical marijuana, it would not take away from the safety standards that would need to be established to keep Hoosiers safe. This proposed legislation would not legalize the use of recreational marijuana,” said Bohacek.
