Applications for medical marijuana cards are now open to Kentuckians.
To qualify, you can’t have a felony record, must be 21 or older and have a written certification from a doctor.
At the launch of card application, only six medical conditions allow you to get the card:
Elected officials say they hope to add more qualifying medical conditions in the future.
“We’ve started in this very restricted way. But my hope is that the diagnoses will expand rapidly so that more patients and we don’t, for instance, have Crohn’s disease in there or ALS in there,” explained state representative Rachel Robers (D-Newport). “So there’s some other diagnoses that I hope to see come on board quickly.”
Technically, dispensaries are also eligible to open Wednesday, but sales aren’t expected to start for months as they get their businesses set up.
As Kentucky’s medical marijuana program launches, four dispensaries are expected to open in Northern Kentucky:
