Missouri’s adlt-use cannabis market, legal for roughly the same span Kansas City has spent preparing to host the World Cup, is positioning for the foreign fans arriving for the tournament, according to FOX4.
The state has grown into the nation’s sixth largest cannabis market over four years. The incoming crowd skews heavily international, and most of those visitors come from places where access looks nothing like Missouri’s.
“We’re definitely going to be open to the international market that they are saying is going to be about half the people coming here. So, 325,000 people coming from abroad, and you look at Europe, they’ve got 21 of the 27 countries that have some kind of medical program and only one has an adult-use program,” says John Mueller, CEO of Greenlight. John estimates that translates to 30,000 to 45,000 new dispensary customers over the next month.
The vetting at the door stays the same. “As long as they have their passport or U.S. driver’s license and they are over 21, we will vet them just like we would anyone else walking in the store,” says John. Staff expect questions from medical users unfamiliar with edibles or vape pens, and are briefed to explain consumption rules to out-of-town buyers.
Public use is not permitted in Missouri, a restriction covering matches at Arrowhead Stadium and the FIFA Fan Festival. “They have to be careful where they are consuming any of these products,” says John.
