OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Nebraska is suing the Justice Department over marijuana.
Attorney General Mike Hilgers has already made it clear his thoughts against medical marijuana.
Most states have it on the books, and Nebraskans voted overwhelmingly to legalize medical marijuana two years ago, but it’s been mired in bureaucratic delays when it comes to implementing it.
Last week, Nebraska joined Indiana and Louisiana in challenging the Trump Justice Department’s order to reclassify marijuana from a Schedule 1 to a Schedule 3 drug, claiming the Department of Justice didn’t follow the standard rule-making process to make the change.
Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana responded with a statement that Nebraskans “voted for medical cannabis, and (Hilgers) needs to stop treating the will of the people like something he can litigate away.”
Hilgers’ opponent in November, Jocelyn Brasher, also weighed in on the lawsuit.
She released a statement saying in part, “Mike Hilgers is overriding the voices of Nebraska voters and interfering with decisions that families, patients, and doctors have already made clear they support.”
