LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln man was arrested after allegedly picking up 99 pounds of marijuana before being intercepted by police.
On Wednesday, investigators with the Lincoln Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force received information from the Omaha DEA that Alex Hernandez, 25, would be receiving a large shipment of marijuana from a delivery truck.
Investigators began conducting surveillance in the area of 25th and E streets, where it was believed that Hernandez was going to obtain the shipment, Lincoln police said.
Eventually, investigators observed a delivery truck arrive and saw Hernandez sign for the delivery, the arrest affidavit stated.
The delivery truck driver unloaded a pallet, and Hernandez then loaded four cardboard boxes into a Savanah U-Haul truck, according to investigators.
After following Hernandez while he was driving the U-Haul, investigators contacted him after arriving at a storage unit, court records show.
Police said Hernandez denied consent to search his vehicle, but a K-9 conducted a sniff of the U-Haul, leading investigators to believe there was probable cause for a search.
During the search of the vehicle, investigators found approximately 45,030.4 grams of marijuana, about 99.25 pounds, the arrest affidavit shows. Investigators also located about 100 THC vape cartridges, LPD said.
Hernandez was arrested and transported to the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.
His bond was set at 10% of $250,000, and his next hearing is scheduled for June 9.
