The House Majority Policy Committee held a hearing on Monday where leaders discussed why they believe Pennsylvania should legalize cannabis.
Pennsylvania is one of 19 states that do not have the adult use of marijuana legalized. The use of medical marijuana is legal, however.
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives approved a bill last year that would allow the adult use of cannabis. Senate Republicans voted it down.
Policy Committee Chairman Ryan Bizzaro said that reforms will need to be added if the state eventually legalizes the use of recreational marijuana.
“When adult-use cannabis is ultimately signed into law, clean slate reform will be needed to provide fairness and economic growth — giving people a real second chance while strengthening our workforce and communities,” said Bizzaro.
The hearing was held at the Braid Mill in Philadelphia.
“No one should carry a lifelong record blocking them from jobs, housing or other opportunities for something that should be legal in PA by now,” the PA House Democratic Policy Committee stated in a Facebook post following the hearing.
