A Rankin County Sheriff’s Department K9 helped deputies find nearly 100 pounds of marijuana that was hidden in an SUV.
A Rankin County deputy stopped a white Kia SUV at about 10:30 a.m. on Highway 49, near Highway 469 in Florence because of a traffic violation.
“While speaking with the driver, later identified as Christopher Luis Rivero, the deputy began to suspect that they were involved in criminal activity,” Investigator Tyler Burnell said in a news release.
A narcotics K9 was deployed, and the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed about 96 pounds of marijuana that had been concealed in the vehicle.
Rivero was arrested and is charged with trafficking a controlled substance. He’s being held at the Rankin County Adult Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
