COLUMBUS, OHIO – State Representative Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Twp.) today voted in support of Senate Bill 56, legislation updating Ohio’s marijuana laws, ensuring protections for children and addressing the issue of intoxicating hemp.
The bill passed with bipartisan support and preserves the legal adult-use marijuana provisions approved by voters in Issue 2 (2023), while also working to promote public safety.
“Senate Bill 56 strikes the right balance between respecting the will of the voters and protecting public safety,” said Rep. Williams. “Ohioans voted to legalize adult-use marijuana, and this legislation ensures it is done responsibly—keeping it away from kids, regulating intoxicating hemp products, and making sure our communities remain safe while this new industry grows.”
The bill makes the following updates:
Clarifying Ohio’s Marijuana Law
Promoting Public Safety
Intoxicating Hemp
Hemp-Infused Beverages
Senate Bill 56 now returns to the Ohio Senate for a concurrence vote.
