RICHMOND, Va. — Gov. Abigail Spanberger on Monday took action on hundreds of bills passed during the 2026 Virginia General Assembly session, signing some into law, vetoing others, and returning several to lawmakers with recommended amendments.
The governor’s actions touched on a wide range of issues, including gun policy, marijuana legalization, labor protections, immigration enforcement, voting laws, gambling, and energy planning.
Among the most notable moves, Spanberger advanced new firearm storage and ghost gun restrictions, proposed changes to assault weapons and background check legislation, delayed the rollout of Virginia’s planned legal marijuana retail market, amended major worker protection bills, and vetoed efforts to legalize skill games and expand casino eligibility to Fairfax County.
The bills below represent selected measures of broad public interest among the hundreds acted on by the governor. Bill summaries are based on legislative descriptions from Virginia’s Legislative Information System and, where noted, explanations released by the governor’s office regarding her recommended amendments.
Lawmakers will consider the governor’s amendments and vetoes during the General Assembly’s reconvened session on Wednesday, April 22, where they can accept, reject, or override her actions.
