MURRAY, Ky. (WSIL) — Calloway County Sheriff’s deputies said they seized 37 pounds of marijuana and hundreds of THC vape devices from a home directly across from a school in Murray. Two people face charges following the April 28 drug bust.
The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division executed a search warrant at a home on Robin Court at approximately 5:30 p.m., with assistance from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said they found a large quantity of marijuana inside the home, along with hundreds of THC disposable vape devices, digital scales, packaging and shipping materials and drug paraphernalia consistent with distribution.
Detectives also reported finding two loaded guns, identified as an AK-47 style pistol and a 9mm pistol, as well as additional drug related items. In total, approximately 16,873 grams of marijuana, 14 one-ounce containers of THC wax and several hundred THC vape cartridges were seized, Murray police stated.
Police stated the home is located directly across the street from Westside Baptist’s Kingdom Kids School.
“We want to remind the public that marijuana/THC products possessed through proper legal channels for medicinal purposes are not a criminal offense,” Calloway County Sheriff’s detectives said. “However, operations such as this are illegal and pose a significant risk to the community.”
“The combination of drug trafficking activity and the presence of loaded firearms increases the potential for violence, attracts additional criminal activity, and places nearby residents, particularly children and families in close proximity, at a heightened risk,” detectives said.
Ronald Lewis, 33, of Murray was lodged at the Calloway County Detention Facility. Police cited Lewis with offenses of trafficking marijuana more than five pounds second offense enhanced, a Class B felony, trafficking a controlled substance 1,000 feet from a school, a Class D felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Shantel Hyte, 28, of Southhaven, Mississippi was cited and released on a charge of possession of marijuana.
