WEST FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A West Fargo man is facing a felony drug charge after a traffic stop Monday night led to the discovery of nearly a third of a pound of marijuana, dozens of drug cartridges, and nearly $16,000 in cash.
Justin Zachary Northern, 21, was charged Tuesday with possession with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana.
West Fargo police pulled Northern over around 8:30 p.m. Monday after an officer noticed his vehicle had dark window tint and no front license plate. When asked to step out of the vehicle, Northern allegedly tried to close the door on the officer and put the car in drive to flee. The officer pulled Northern from the vehicle and arrested him.
Northern told the officer he tried to run because of marijuana he had on him. Officers found two large bags of marijuana hidden in his pants. A search of his vehicle turned up an additional ounce of marijuana, 52 marijuana cartridges, a scale with marijuana residue, and $15,770 in cash.
Northern was booked at the Cass County Jail, where an additional $160 was found on him. In total, officers seized 146 grams of marijuana. His vehicle and two cellphones were also seized.
Northern denied selling marijuana, telling police the drugs were for personal use and the cash came from selling a vehicle months earlier.
He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
